Kevin Garnett offered polite praise of the Miami Heat before Paul Pierce interrupted the postgame news conference and said, “Man, I am going to tell you the truth.” Then he did. “They got D-Leaguers out there, so I think we just handled our business,” the Boston forward said, listing some of the five Miami players who spent time in the developmental league this season.

After watching his team with its 50th game, New Orleans coach Byron Scott was willing to forgive a fourth-quarter lapse on defense. David West scored 32 points and Chris Paul had 20 points and 16 assists to lead New Orleans to a 118-111 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, giving the Hornets 50 wins in a season for the first time since 1997-98.

Driver in Sealy death arrested for DWI (AP)

A man convicted in the alcohol-related crash that killed Timberwolves guard Malik Sealy was arrested Sunday on suspicion of drunken driving. Souksangouane Phengsene, 51, of Shakopee was booked into the Hennepin County Jail around 2 a.m., according to the county Web site. Marvin Williams scored 27 points and Joe Johnson had 23 to help the Atlanta Hawks win their third straight, 114-109 over the New York Knicks on Sunday. The Hawks increased their lead over New Jersey to 2 1/2 games for the eighth and final spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race. New York dropped to 7-29 on the road and has lost two straight and seven of eight overall.

After missing all his field goals against one of the San Antonio Spurs’ in-state rivals a week ago, Michael Finley tweaked his pregame routine in hopes that he would perform a little better against the other. It seems to have worked. Finley scored 22 points on Sunday and the Spurs picked up their seventh straight win with an easy 109-88 victory over the Houston Rockets.

Jazz F Kirilenko out against Wolves (AP)

Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko missed Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves because of an injured right calf. There is no timetable for his return, but he does not expect to be out long. Kirilenko had muscle spasms in his calf during a win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night.
